Weekly Report # 5

This week was a little different as we had a house guest- Grandma from California came to visit! Also by mid week DS and I (And Grandma!) were all sick.




MATH-

Listened to Multiplication Tunes that Teach throughout the week

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS-
Discussed Suffixes, the writing process, Antonyms,Synonyms, Reviewed previously learned parts of language and writing.
Continued reading from "The Mythology Handbook"
Played "Parts of Language" Game
DD- Played "I know how to spell No" game

Read aloud from Ancient Egypt
Read aloud from Ancient World
Made "dinosaur fossils" using magic sand
Discussed Farming on the Nile, colored page and added it to our History Notebooks.

MUSIC/ART-
Listened to Vivaldi throughout the week.
Field trip- Painting Pottery

READING-
I continued to read aloud "Eleven" Chapter 6-8
Finished reading Magic Tree House- Dinosaurs before Dawn
Read aloud "The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash" by Trinka Hakes Noble

Weekly Report # 4

We had a good week. A lot of extra curricular activities this week but we managed to keep up with our studies! We now have one "official month" of studies under our belt!

BIBLE-
(Integrated in to most things we do although I don't usually list them separately- books, bible reading, music, history etc.)


MATH
DD- Saxon 2 Lesson 33-37

DD/DS- Played Pizza Fractions Game
Listened to Multiplication tunes that Teach- Throughout the week in the car


HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY-
Added Vivaldi to our Book of Centuries
Continued to read aloud from Dinosaurs of Eden
Read aloud from "Ancient Civilizations" (The first Civilization)
Read aloud from "Streams of Civilization Volume One"- Pgs 33-36
Added "The Confusion of Tongues" to our notebook (Both wrote summary's of the event in their own words)
Added "The Fertile Crescent" Map to our history notebooks

SCIENCE
I had to stray from our planned activities as the kids have been really bugging me to finish up the unit that we started over the summer...
Experiment: Colorful Jiggly Crystals (Continuing to learn about about acids and bases)

Began reading "The Mythology Handbook by Lady Hestia Evans (Pgs 1-13)
Vocabulary word- GRAPH- Made Vocab card, looked up words in dictionary, made sentences for vocab words. No test this week.
Discussed "Nouns, Verbs,sentences, prefixes"
DD- Workbook #1- Page 37- 39(Describing People,Riddles)
DD- Workbook #2- Page 40-45 (Thinking Skills, Reading Skills)
DS- Workbook- Page 68-79 (Vowel Pairs, the sounds of Y,consonant pairs)
DS- Workbook #2- Pages 12-15 (Reading Comprehension- main ideas, details,
Worked on our "All about ME" books
DS- four digit Addition practice worksheet


MUSIC/ART-
Listened to the story of Vivaldi (again-the kids find this less than interesting, so I am putting it on in the car on our drive to work, some of it is sinking in... slowly.)
Continued listening to the works of Vivaldi throughout the week
DD- Made cute signs to hold up during football using scrapbooking material
(I am already slacking in the art department this year. Realizing now that I should have sprung the extra money to buy the art program they recommended for our curriculum this year... oops)

READING-
Continued to read "Eleven" Chapter 2-6
I read aloud "Punctuation takes a vacation" by Robin Pulver,
"That's not what the Bible Says Too!"
Magic Tree House book # 1 "Dinosaurs before Dark" by Mary Pope Osborne Chapters 1-7
DD/DS- Silent reading 30 min 5x

FOREIGN LANGUAGE-
DS- L1 Pronunciation 100%, Worksheet Unidad 1, Leccion 1, Ejercicio 1
(He did great with the lesson but struggled with the worksheet- to the point of tears- Going to take this very slow.)
