Christmas 2009- A White Christmas

We had our first ever White Christmas! We had the best four days ever! The break was so needed! We hope we can make it a new tradition. We all had the best time- no electronics (Even though the cabin did have a T.V. no one ever turned it on.) Long days of sledding, snowboarding, hiking through the snow, reading by the fire- Couldn't have asked for anything more! There are way more photos of DD than DS- He was busy running around the entire time and you couldn't get him to stop long enough for a photo! I tried.. DD was constantly begging for her picture to be taken on the other hand!

We started the week off on a really high note. The kids both seemed very motivated (Our history switch seems to have encouraged the attitude change)
DD has been a reading maniac. Sneaking up, finishing whole chapter books in a night. She is loving the Baby Sitter's Club- Little Sister's books and read 3 just this week! DS seems to have finally realized what I have been telling him for years- the sooner you start the sooner you finish! It has made a huge difference time wise for us! The Passing of a friend

A friend passed away today. Sitting here grieving her loss and thinking about her 3 young children and husband. I went to her facebook page and amazingly her verse of the day was this:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

— John 3:16 (NIV)

Thank you God. You give me peace in my weakest moments.

Weekly Report # 14

It is amazing how much "extra" time we seem to be able to find now that we are not tied down to the football schedule. DS is going to take a break from sports until after the holidays then it will be on to something new.. Not quite sure what yet... Trying to encourage him in to taking some music lessons, but so far he has no interest. I am enjoying the break- only having to run one child to activities is so much easier! I will enjoy it while it lasts!
DD finally reached her goal of getting her back walk over perfected! She has been working on it for many months. She is so proud of herself, as are we! It is an integral part of her individual cheer routine and now that she has it- her coach has changed her team routine to make her front and center with her new moves!
She is ecstatic!

DD is excited about math- getting ready to officially start multiplication next week. She is still working really hard to get to her goal of starting 3rd grade math this year. (She wants desperately to catch up to brother!)

DS is doing better in math. He actually woke up before everyone else one day this week and started in on his math before being told. He said "The sooner I get started the sooner I am done." Holy cow- did I finally get through to him?!?!?!?

Both the kids have a renewed interest in history thanks to The Story of the World book that we started. (Thanks SIL for letting us borrow it!!) The format works really well for them (AND ME!) We all really enjoy it and we are moving faster than I originally had planned as they were asking to do more throughout the week :)

Fun new game!

While out the other day I went in to a store that I don't usually visit, just killing a few minutes before our next activity. We found the game isle and I was surprised to see a whole row of games, many I hadn't heard of before, for really great prices! While looking through them I ran across the game "Rumis" After reading about it I was really excited as it fits perfectly with what we are learning about this year! We opened it up for family game night and all really enjoyed it!

Inspired by the architecture of the Inca, Rumis (meaning "stones") sharpens spatial awareness and critical thinking skills as players strategize to outwit their opponents while reconstructing historical Inca monuments of a pyramid, tower, stairs, lodging, corner, and wall.

Each player receives 11 Rumis stones of one color. Players begin constructing the building one stone at a time, strategically placing their stones to prevent opponents from having the most visible colored stones. The player with the most stones visible from above wins!

Little Girl Recieves H1N1 Shot without parents permission-

Brooklyn girl winds up in hospital after being injected with H1N1 swine flu vaccine without parental permission
Wednesday, November 04, 2009 by: Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Key concepts: Swine flu, Hospital and Swine flu vaccine
View on NaturalPedia: Swine flu, Hospital and Swine flu vaccine

(NaturalNews)
A six-year-old Brooklyn girl, Nikiyah Torres-Pierre, was hospitalized recently after being injected with the swine flu vaccine. The vaccination was conducted entirely without her parents' permission in an incident school nurses are calling "a mistake."

Mother Naomi Troy told the NY Daily News, "I was outraged." After receiving the swine flu injection, her daughter complained she was itching and her stomach was hurting. That's when school officials called an ambulance that rushed Nikiyah to the hospital.

Nikiyah is epileptic and takes prescription medication to treat the condition. Her mother was concerned about the possible side effects of combining a swine flu vaccine shot with epilepsy drugs and was waiting to hear back from her doctor before giving the school permission to vaccinate her daughter. That permission was apparently irrelevant, as some schools simply vaccinate any and all children without concern for parental permission.

After injecting her daughter without permission, the school nurse then called Naomi Troy and tried to persuade her to sign a consent form after the fact. "I was insulted. I was really angry," said Naomi.

So far, 1,800 NY students have been vaccinated against swine flu. Hundreds of thousands more are in line to be vaccinated when a sufficient supply of vaccines is made available.

Protect your children from state officials

What this incident demonstrates is the important need for parents to protect your children from the vaccination agenda being pushed by the State. Even without your permission, your children can be called to the nurse's office and forcibly injected with a substance that could harm or kill them.

You, the parent, might be called after the fact -- after your child winds up in the hospital, suffering from bizarre side effects even though doctors swore the vaccine was "perfectly safe."

Every day that you send your child to a public school, you run the risk that the next time you see your child, it may be in the hospital... or the morgue. Many state Dept. of Health employees who serve as school nurses don't pay any attention to parental permission. They just inject every child they can get their hands on.

And even if your child faints, or collapses into a coma, or even dies from the side effects of the vaccine, they'll claim such things are "pure coincidence" and couldn't be caused by the vaccine itself. How do they know that? Because they've been told "the vaccine is safe." And they believe it.

If you have a child in the public school system -- and you don't want them to be vaccinated with the H1N1 vaccines -- you need to take special precautions by writing a strongly-worded note informing your school principal (and nursing staff) that if your child is vaccinated without your permission, you will sue for damages.

As a public service to NaturalNews readers, I've written and posted precisely such a letter that you can freely use for this purpose. You'll find it here: http://www.naturalnews.com/027394_s...

Use this letter to stand up for your rights as a parent! Don't let the schools inject your child with a potentially harmful chemical substance. Take action now to protect the rights of you and your children.

A reminder to myself...

I love this following verse. It reminds me that I NEED to ask for help once in a while. I have always found it really hard to do. Thanks to those of you (You know who you are) who are always just a phone call away (Or a mouse click) keeping me going on those days where I am not sure than I can.

Silent Letters Loud and Clear

Just thought I would share a book that we really enjoyed this week. It is a fun story, bright and colorful, and kept the kids interested while stressing the importance of silent letters.

From School Library Journal
Grade 1–3—As in Punctuation Takes a Vacation (2003) and Nouns and Verbs Have a Field Day (2006, both Holiday House), Pulver and Rowe tackle another grammar lesson with humorous examples and whimsical illustrations. The students in Mr. Wright's class have decided that they have had enough of silent letters; they can't be heard and they make spelling too tough. After listening to their complaints, their teacher urges them to email the local newspaper to demand the banning of silent letters. When the letters find out, they decide to escape from the missive and teach the class a lesson. The editors of the newspaper respond with an editorial criticizing the children's "poor" spelling, whereupon the letters reappear to convince the youngsters of their importance and that practice will make the children better spellers. The acrylic cartoon art floats in mid-air against a vivid blue background, yet the usage depicted in each example is clearly matched with the speech each letter is trying to make. This topic could have easily resulted in a didactic lesson, but the story line and examples of silent letters or letter pairs appearing in everyday words lighten the presentation.—Lynne Mattern, Robert Seaman School, Jericho, NY
